I am a young colombian woman that got to know about Sir Simon Rattle through a friend….
Ah, I remember that sunny October afternoon, when my friend said to me: I have some DVD’s you should watch, about classical music in the twentieth century; you’ll like them, they’re really good..
…. and I said: yeah, sure, thanks….
… and I watched them…. and I had one of the most ground breaking, beautiful, enlightening, exciting learning experiences I’ve had in my life. And I became a fan of Sir Rattle, got to love his conducting and began to follow his apperances in documentaries and to keep track of his interviews (most of them are reaaaaaally cool, he has great ideas..)
And so, today, I’ve decided to share my crush with the world; I know: I have no shame. What the hell: the man is worth it.
And so, make no mistake: I DO NOT KNOW SIR SIMON RATTLE PERSONALLY AND I AM NOT ASSOCIATED TO HIM OR HIS MANAGEMENT IN ANY WAY. THERE. JUST SO WE’RE CLEAR.

con los oídos despiertos... listening up for Sir Simon...
LISTO. QUE NO HAYA NINGUNA DUDA, O.K?
Hi Alejandra.
It’s great that you have this crush on this conductor! We should all have crushes all of our life. He certainly still looks good, even if maybe the press photos are a little enhanced.
I found your website because I was looking for reviews of a concert I went to on Sunday in the Musikverein Vienna – Rattle / Berlin Philharmonic, Messiaen and Bruckner. It was a wonderful chance to stand (for 6 euros) and see a great conductor and a great orchestra. They sounded superb. I then had to rush to catch a plane as soon as the Bruckner finished, but I am sure the audience gave a long ovation.
Just one little comment about English usage – and your English is about 100 000 percent better than my Spanish – and the silly English honours system.
We would say ‘Sir Simon’, but not ‘Sir Rattle’. Don’t ask why, because I have no idea. We say ‘Lord X or Lady X using their surname… but not Sir X……
It’s not important, for sure.
Good wishes
Peter

Dear Alejandra,
I came across your site when looking at the Classical Music situation in Colombia. I am a violinist one of the leader´s of the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos Opera House in Lisbon Portugal. I also have a String Quartet- Quarteto Lacerda- you can see some video clips on you-tube.
The truth is I would love to come to Medellin Colombia and do some concerts. But I do not know anyone! Could you point me in the right direction!
Oh! By the way Sir Simon Rattle is a genious!
